Feeling nervous before your first counselling or hypnotherapy session is completely natural. Many people worry about opening up, not knowing what to expect, or whether therapy will really help. You are not alone in feeling this way.

At Ashford Counselling and Hypnotherapy, you will be met with warmth, understanding, and respect from the very first session. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready. Sessions move at your pace, and you remain in control at all times.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation to help you reach a calm, focused state where positive change can be supported at a subconscious level.

Will I lose control during hypnotherapy?

No. You remain fully aware and in control throughout the session. Hypnotherapy is a natural and deeply relaxing state, similar to meditation or daydreaming.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Most people can experience hypnosis. Hypnotherapy works best when you are open to the process and motivated to make positive changes.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

This depends on the issue being addressed and your personal goals. Some people notice benefits after a small number of sessions, while others choose ongoing support.

Do you offer recorded hypnotherapy sessions?

Yes. Joan records hypnotherapy sessions so clients can access a one-to-one experience virtually, at a time and place that suits them.

Are hypnotherapy sessions safe?

Yes. Hypnotherapy is safe when delivered by a trained professional. It is not a substitute for medical treatment, but can complement other therapeutic approaches.

COUNSELLING FAQS

Here are some of the most common questions clients ask before starting counselling at Ashford Counselling and Hypnotherapy.

You don’t need to have the “right words,” a clear goal, or a full understanding of what you’re feeling. Part of the process is gently exploring things together, in a safe and confidential space where you are listened to without judgement.

Many clients find that simply taking the first step, making contact or attending the first session, brings a sense of relief. Therapy is not about being “fixed,” but about being supported, understood, and empowered to move forward in a way that feels right for you.

If you are feeling unsure, you are very welcome to get in touch for an informal conversation. Sometimes, that first gentle connection is all it takes to begin.
